Rap, Malayalam movies, Cricket, and peak human-ness
These are seedling thoughts in my mind that are worth noting down. It is something I can write more upon later.
Hello everyone, I hope you guys had a pleasant week.
I personally had one of the toughest weeks but now it is all okay and the dust is settling. During tough times, please remember how people support and care for you. It is very hard to find such people these days who ask how are you doing, often these days and also, with those people around, you won’t ever have to worry that you are alone in this.
That’s the beauty of humans, we may be in the deepest of troubles but when someone says something that is inherently troubling them more than how you are handling your problem, you support them and show that you care.
That peak human-ness is something everybody should experience. Please find such people and stick around. I promise life will get infinitely better.
That’s enough about me. Now, let’s look at some of the interesting things I have seen in the past couple of weeks or months (sorry😅):
Kendrick - Drake Rap Beef (No question about it, Kendrick won!🫡)
Speaking of rap - There is some new revelation in Malayalam cinema where rap songs are becoming a mainstream choice of music for elevating stories.
Speaking of Malayalam movies, watched the re-introduction of Fahad Faasil as ‘Ranga’ in Aavesham and I loved him throughout. (movie review)
RCB (my favorite IPL team) lost again and yet proved to be a choker in playoffs again (hurts to even write this, but it is what it is)
If you are a Kendrick Fan, or Drake fan, or J. Cole Fan, you probably would know the ongoing beef/rap battle.
I am sharing this only because of Kendrick and his lyrical genius. Man, that guy can write.
The line - This ain’t a rap battle, it’s a long life battle with yourself in the song “Meet the Grahams“ is a winner, to me personally but the vibe, the grooviness that I couldn’t find in any of the songs before is found in “Not Like Us” put him miles ahead in this rap beef.
I was looking for entire beef explanations and this video was the best I found so far.
There is some new revelation in Malayalam cinema where rap is becoming a mainstream choice of music for elevating stories. If you look at Malayalam movies this year. You probably would have noticed the inclusion of one Malayalam rap to convey or to move forward the story or to explain the situation without wasting more time (per se).
A few examples would be
Maathapithakkale from Aavesham
Kuthanthram from Manjummel Boys
Mini Maharani from Premalu
I will definitely delve more into why this is working but needed to share with y’all what I think is happening. If you find any good rap songs from regional movies or stories - please share them.
If the topic resonates with you and you have an interesting perspective on it or would like to discuss it further, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Speaking of Malayalam movies, watched the re-introduction of Fahad Faasil as ‘Ranga’ in Aavesham and I loved him throughout.
I am going to sound a bit weird to say this but Aavesham is one of the best movies that talks about how men don’t have a place to share their feelings or convey their emotions. The only place they even try to share a few things that go with is with their friends and this movie captures how some people actively seek out friendships because the other person is good. Now, the setup of the movie is about a gangster who seeks friendship with 3 college-going kids whose only motto for being friends with a gangster is to feel big.
That concept of people being lonely even though being around people shined out for me in Ranga. All say they are around him but only a few around him care for him. Amban is one such person for him.
This movie talks about the obvious things but I thoroughly enjoyed the way the movie turned discussions about men's emotions into comedy. The acting of every single member in the movie was truly top-notch!
The performance of Fahad Faasil as Ranga will be remembered for a long time.
RCB (my favorite IPL team) lost again and yet proved to be a choker in playoffs again (hurts to even write this, but it is what it is)
It was a good effort by the entire team, especially Virat Kohli.
Staying hopeful yet again for next season. If only RCB would have won the Eliminators, I believe we would have won the tournament for sure. But, some parts of me do feel they might lose because that’s been happening for 17 years.
Also, to me RCB vs CSK match was the finals. That match had the entire country hooked to watch who would win. So, I am satisfied with that result.
Looking at the bigger picture, the ICC T20 World Cup too looks exciting to watch. With so many good players from each team getting wins single-handedly; it would be interesting to watch after the group stages.
As a guy, who left watching cricket after 10th standard now going back to watching/checking each match is a big thing.
What do you think, would RCB would have won, if it had won the match against RR?
I have a lot more to write about and talk about, but ending it here and will write another one next week.
It feels good to take my time out to write again.
Hopefully, you too had something to ponder about after reading.
